Lead Engineer

What will your mission be?

As the Lead Engineer you are the spider in the web of all technology development activities. In the large capital projects you will be one of the first engineers to be introduced to the new projects. You will generally be responsible for supervision and technical direction over a team of engineers and designers when functioning as a lead engineer. As lead engineer, you will be responsible for total delivery of the structural deliverables and services on time, within performance budget and meeting quality expectations. Your initial role is to translate the requirements into an overall mass balance, and set up a concept which aligns with the business goals in the project definition, aligning the stakeholders to ensure the design fulfills all targets with a suitable scope.

After this, you will be the heart of the engineering team, combining the input of the team members into a comprehensive, integrated set of deliverables which will guide us through the stage gate process. Together with the design manager you will be the first point of contact to the engineering consultant’s team when it comes to design matters, reviews and validations of engineering documents.

Outside of projects you will support the overarching development of the different concepts. Overseeing the connections between all different process areas.

What will be your responsibilities?

Key responsibilities

  • Manage the technical scope of the large CAPEX projects and align with the company, department and project targets and goals.

  • Set-up and manage the mass and energy balances and the overall PFD of our new facilities.

  • Define mechanical and electrical standards for Protix.

  • Apply Protix standards within the overall plant design.

  • Ensure that engineering deliverables meet the required quality standards.

  • Manage the interfaces between the different workstreams in the project, ensure the smooth communication between the various disciplines of the project and ensure overall integration between all functional areas.

  • Be the first point of contact for technical issues for our engineering (EPC(M)) partners in the large scale CAPEX projects and manage the proper flow of information to the internal stakeholders.

  • Manage and safeguard the battery limits within the total design.

  • Closely collaborate with the operational team as the senior user.


Main performance objectives of the role

  • Lead the technical development of our new insect production facilities.

  • Ensure newly developed technologies are embedded in the concept of new production facilities.

  • Knowing your scope and deliverables. Initiating timely change notices when deviation is made from your scope, affecting either schedule, deliverables or cost of the work.

  • Coach and support the leads of the underlying work streams on a technical level.

  • Ensure the proper technical documentation is delivered by the project team.

  • Integrate the technical documentation into a single, complete and integrated package

  • Act as a sparring partner for technical challenges throughout the company.

  • Technical mentor for the less experienced colleagues.

Who are you?
  • MSc/BSc degree in engineering, business administration, or similar experience.

  • Experience in the development of production and processing lines, preferably in the feed or food industry.

  • Fluent in English (both verbal and in writing), Dutch proficiency is a preference..

  • A general interest in nature and technology.

  • Hands-on person that loves to be with boots on the ground.

  • Natural tendency to take the lead/ownership for highly complex problems.

  • Excellent communication skills.
